Amongst one of the finest bird sanctuaries on the planet, Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary also called as Keoladeo Ghana National Park. Keoladeo, the name gets from an old Hindu temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva and remains at the focal point of the national park.
It was declared a protected sanctuary in 1971 and established as a national park on 10 March 1982. It is also a World Heritage Site.
Settling indigenous water-feathered creatures and also transient water flying creatures and waterside winged creatures, this haven is likewise possessed by Sambar, Chital, Nilgai, and Boar.

Bharatpur Lake: In 1760, an earthen dam (Ajan Dam) was developed, to spare the town, from this yearly idea of nature. The sorrow made by extraction of soil for the dam was cleared and this turned into the Bharatpur Lake. Do you know how Bharatpur Lake was created? Bharatpur used to be flooded every monsoon till an earthen dam was constructed in 1760. Later the depression created by extraction of the soil used for the dam, was cleared and converted into a lake. This lake, a hunting preserve of the Bharatpur royalty, was declared a national park in 1982 and classified as a World Heritage Site in 1985.

So if you are a bird-watcher, A ride on cycle is an exciting way of traveling inside the park. The sanctuary is popular for its avian guests that come from Siberia and it is a treat to watch these birds. But Bharatpur teems with a large number of birds throughout the year and you can watch at least 150 species of birds in a single day. Some of the birds that you may see in the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary include Greater and Indian spotted Eagles, Indian Courser, Imperial, Dalmatian Pelicans, Solitary Lapwing, Dusky Eagle Owls, Demoiselle Cranes and Sarus. October to February is considered to be the best season for visiting the sanctuary.

Distance from Agra, Delhi, and Jaipur

Every year a number of bird watchers take the Agra-Jaipur Highway and head to one of the most popular bird sanctuaries in India. Keoladeo National Park is home to about 350 plus species of birds and 370 plus Species of Flora. Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary distance from Delhi is 211 Kilometers, From Jaipur is 183 Kilometers. Since the sanctuary lies between Agra and Jaipur, most tourists visiting the city of the Taj Mahal and Jaipur include Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary in their itinerary. The best time to visit Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is from September to February and August to October time is to witness the resident birds and from October to February to get the sight of migratory birds.

The temperature ranges from 38-45 °C from April to June month. During winters from October to March temperature can drop below 10 °C.
